Main Organizer/s: Tanghalang Pilipino
Description:
Tanghalang Pilipino's ANAK DATU is a multiverse, post-pandemic production that banners PEACE through the intertwining of conflicts in a folk tale, a stark social realism, and an all-too-familiar family drama. Based on National Artist Abdulmari Imao's “ANAK DATU”, the story revolves around a son of a village chieftain in Muslim Mindanao during the pre-colonial Philippines. Before he is born, the village is raided by pirates, and his mother gives birth in captivity. Hence, he grows up believing that his father is a former pirate. Only upon the death of the old man does the son discover the truth about his real father. This short story gave birth to Rody Vera's stage adaptation adjacent to other events in the history of Mindanao and the personal lives of Abdulmari Imao's family. Prepare to be captivated as ANAK DATU explores themes of identity, heritage, and the pursuit of peace. Tanghalang Pilipino's innovative production promises to transport audiences into a mesmerizing world where the past, present, and future converge.

IP AND CITIZEN JOURNALISM FOR THE YOUTH
Venue: Philippine Science High School, PUP, Marco Polo Hotel (last day)
Inclusive Date/s: Proposed Date: October 9-11, 2023
Main Organizer/s: WIPO and IPOPHL
Description: Following the good results of the pilot, a second edition of the project (four day-long workshops and a joint awards ceremony) was carried out in June 2022 in Dakar, Senegal, in cooperation with the national IP Office (ASPIT) and with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) of the Republic of Korea. A short video spot to celebrate this successful project is also available on WIPO’s website. Students aged 15-17 years are taught the basics of IP and enforcement, focusing on counterfeiting and piracy. They are provided with smartphones and trained how to make a 4 minute-video and edit it by themselves. They work in groups of four students and perform sketches, each student having a specific role (e.g., cameraman, journalist, IP expert, consumer, etc.) It is striking how quickly through these workshops’ students grasp the basics of IP and become enthusiastic advocates for IP to their friends and families. For 2023, WIPO tapped IPOPHL to undertake this initiative again this year. As a number of awareness projects have been already undertaken in Africa, it is proposed to provide assistance to an Asian country. WIPO in partnership with IPOPHL through DITTB, BCRR, and IP Enforcement Office will conduct the training as part of the awareness program of the agency in the secondary high schools and foster a culture of creativity, ingenuity, innovation and respect for IP in their respective schools/communities through a face-to-face seminar on IP and Journalism.
